A goal a piece from Kimunge, Mutiso & Omondi and an own goal handed Wazalendo Youth victory over University of Nairobi.
Wazalendo Youth were set out to win against their university opponents in a bid to push for the top spot in the KHU National League standings. In the first half both teams, looked to take advantage of the other with couple of chances going to waste. But it was Wazalendo who took the lead after Kimunge forced an error from the UoN goalie to produce an own goal. Bright Kezengwa made decent saves in other end to keep Wazalendo in the lead.
The students piled pressure on Wazalendo as the first half drew to a close and yet again, Man-of-the-match, Bright was called into action with a brilliant save after a perfect move from UoN.
Minutes after the second half whistle, UoN were awarded a controversial goal that seemed to have resulted from dangerous play near the D. Wazalendo responded quickly with a swift counter, Kimunge getting to end of it and finding an empty net. UoN looked to respond with waves of attack but the Wazalendo defence were up to task.
Wazalendo continued to pile pressure, which bore fruit as a penalty flick was awarded after a UoN defender kicked a goal bound ball. Mutiso stepped up and sent the keeper the wrong way, 1-3.
From then on, Wazalendo controlled the game, denied the opponents possession but it was not over until the dying seconds of the game when skipper Omondi pounced on Eric’s shot to place the ball in the top comer at the sound of the buzzer. Final score 1-4.
