Wazalendo Juggernaut Continues

Wazalendo main team impressive performance this season continued with a hard-fought 3-2 win over KCA University on a Sunday afternoon push back. It was a case of grit than performance as the KCAU team, composed of ex-KCAU students and seasoned players came back from 2 goals, to temporality tie the match 2-2 with a minute to go.

Wazalendo started strongly in a match and made a strong statement of intent when in the sixth minute of the first quarter, the leading goal scorer Nelson Shiraku aka Franco, weaved around KCAU defense and unleashed an unstoppable backhand shot which caught the goalkeeper napping.

With Wazalendo dictating the pace of the match, a counterattack from deep inside Wazalendo defense line set up Elly Mwanzi to tap in his 3rd goal in 2 matches and open a 2 goal gap on the 11th Minute. On resumption of the second quarter, KCAU pulled one goal back after a well-taken penalty corner to take the match to 2-1 scoreline at the breather.

On resumption of the second half, KCAU piled pressure on Wazalendo defense who seemed to have relaxed the pressure with an upcoming must-win match against Kenya Police in 2 days’ time.  Their pressure bore fruits as a harmless cross over the Wazalendo goal line was deflected into the goal to tie the match 2-2 with 16 minutes to goal.

The ‘Patriots’ captain Kennedy Munialo, who has received a call-up to the national team scored the winning goal in the 59th minute after being set up by ever-running, Sam Wekesa to send the Wazalendo bench into jubilation. The win leaves Wazalendo on the 4th position with 18 points having played 9 games, trailing the league leaders Kenya Police by 12 points and a match in hand.

Sights now move to the midweek fixture against unbeaten Kenya police. The law enforcers have not beaten Wazalendo in the previous meetings, with Wazalendo getting the better of police in the latest encounter at the finals of the SANAA memorial tournament in Mombasa. It will be a mouthwatering encounter and with less than 3 days to go, excitement is in the air.
