Wazalendo win the 2015 Nakuru Hockey Festival Tournament

Wazalendo A were crowned champions of the 2015 Nakuru Hockey Festival Tournament after beating a newly created side, Chase Bank Hockey Club, 1-0, as Wazalendo B bowed out at the preliminaries. The tournament was organized and hosted by Nakuru Sikh Hockey Club at Menegai High School on the 28th of February to 1st March 2015.

Having seen off tournament favourites Kenya Police in a penalty shoot-out that ended 2-1 in their favour, Wazalendo booked a place at the finals with the bankers who had beaten them in an earlier encounter at the preliminary stages of the competition.

Wazalendo’s Chege broke free with a slaloming run to pass the ball to Sam who placed the ball into an empty goal.

Wazalendo however saw off some late pressure to hold on to the narrow, precious lead to become the deserved winners of the competition.

Team captain, Matthew Mutiso was delighted with the victory and was not short of praise for the team, “We set out to focus and win this tournament which we I’m glad we did. We worked hard for as a team.”

“We would like to take this good run of form into the new season. We were unlucky last season but this season we will seriously challenge for title”, Mutiso added.

This victory comes after a good run of form which saw Wazalendo beat Nairobi Simba 4-2 and 8-4 in their pre-season doubleheader friendly.

Wazalendo B were however unlucky not to progress to the knock-out stages of the competition having won one, drawn two and lost one.
