Wazalendo Youth Dims the Daystar

Wazalendo Youth took to the pitch on Sunday afternoon at City Park Hockey Stadium for their second match of the season where they reaped a deserved maximum three points with a 6-2 comprehensive win over Daystar University.

The youthful lads of Wazalendo opened the scoring in the third minute of the game from a deflected shot by Gideon “Gidi” Kimunge, after which he doubled the lead six minutes later, to dictate Wazalendo’s dominance in the first quarter of the match. In response, Daystar’s Allan Akoyo, took advantage of some defensive frailties to pull one back to cut Wazalendo’s lead to one goal. This gave the students some sort of confidence as Wazalendo appeared to be under some pressure. Before Daystar could take further advantage of this lapse, Wazalendo vice Captain Simon Mwangi tapped in a ricocheted shot from Daystar’s Goalie in the dying minutes of the first half to restore the two goal cushion as the teams proceeded for the break.

On resumption, Wazalendo Youth picked up from where they had left off with Peter Mulati aka HTC scoring a quick brace in the 37th and 41st minute to take the tally to 5-1 in favor of Wazalendo. It all looked comfortable for the Youth team until the 59th minute when Daystar’s Ferdinard Mandieka scored to remind Wazalendo that the fight isn’t over to make it 5-2. Wazalendo did not let the foot off the gas pedal as Elly Mwanzi rifled a shot into the goal two minutes to time, to cap off a wonderful day for the Youth side.
